Fare and fare zone changes will take
effect as at Monday 4th September 2006
The new fares are based on a 14 zone fare structure covering the Greater Wellington region, and reflect an average 15% increase in train fares and varying increases in bus fares.
Price rises are required to catch up with running costs and to help fund planned improvements to the Metlink public transport network.
The new fare structure was developed by Greater Wellington Regional Council in partnership with public transport operators, and was released for public consultation in April 06.
Feedback showed a majority of support for the proposed changes to the fare structure which are now being introduced with some minor changes.
There are ways in which passengers can save on cash fares. Click
